From the Chair - November 2023
Since our last newsletter we have welcomed a new Premier and a new Cabinet to lead the Victorian Government.
From a One Gippsland perspective, this means that we will be working hard to ensure the Allan ministry is aware of One Gippsland’s policy priorities and advocating that our region receives its fair share of funding and support. We look forward to working with the Premier and her Ministers to continue to build a thriving Gippsland region, and to secure a strong future for local communities.
We continue to advocate and consult widely across our community and in recent months we have met with both Federal and State Ministers and local representatives to advocate for Gippsland’s policy priorities. Read more
Looking ahead, a lot of work is being done behind the scenes to develop a housing position paper, which will put forward a number of practical solutions to help alleviate this important issue affecting the Gippsland region.
One Gippsland is also developing a Pre-Budget Submission 2024-25 which will outline the budget priorities for the region for the year ahead. Once finalised, our team will be championing these local projects to the government and putting in our bid for strategic investments across Gippsland.
In my final message as Chair, I would like to thank my dedicated colleagues on the One Gippsland board for their collective commitment to making Gippsland the most liveable region in Australia. In particular, I would like to acknowledge my hard-working mayoral colleagues for 2023 - Cr Nathan Hersey Deputy-Chair South Gippsland Shire Council, Cr Annemarie McCabe Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Council, Cr Kellie O’Callaghan former Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Cr Michael Whelan former Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council and Cr Ian Bye Mayor of Wellington Shire Council.
With the end of the year rapidly approaching, please accept my good wishes for the festive season ahead, and I thank all of our stakeholders for their support throughout the year.
Regards,
Cr Mark Reeves
