New leadership for One Gippsland
One Gippsland has welcomed a new leadership team with the election of the 2024 Board.
Cr Ian Bye, Mayor of Wellington Shire Council was elected as Chair with Cr Annemarie McCabe, Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Council elected as Deputy Chair.
The new One Gippsland Chair Cr Ian Bye said “Gippsland is a beautiful and productive region with strong aspirations to be one of the most liveable places in Australia.”
One Gippsland has identified a number of regional projects that are critical for the future economic and social success of the region. These are:
· Freight network investment, planning and road safety;
· Offshore wind policy priorities;
· Improving rail reliability, speed and accessibility;
· Tourism recovery including regional events and tracks and trails;
· Meeting the health and wellbeing needs of the region;
· Building the education and skills for the future; and
· Food and fibre projects to capitalise on the region’s strengths.
Cr Bye takes over from Cr Mark Reeves, former Mayor of East Gippsland Shire Council who chaired One Gippsland over the course of a busy 12 months.
Cr Bye thanked Cr Reeves for his commitment to the region saying, “Cr Reeves’ leadership has been important for our region during a critical period as we transition to new industries.”
Cr Bye and Cr McCabe were also joined on the board by new board representatives:
Cr Tom Crook, Mayor East Gippsland Shire Council;
Cr Clare Le Serve, Mayor Bass Coast Shire Council;
Cr Darren Howe, Mayor Latrobe City Council; and
Cr Clare Williams, Mayor South Gippsland Shire Council.
“As Chair, I will be advocating that Gippsland requires strategic investment to help our region take full advantage of its natural assets, create jobs and improve the liveability of the region” Cr Bye declared.
