One Gippsland welcomes new board member

One Gippsland has welcomed an important new member with the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) joining the Board to help drive a more inclusive agenda across Gippsland.

The Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) is the Registered Aboriginal Party that represents Gunaikurnai people, Traditional Owners of much of Gippsland.

One Gippsland Chair Cr Kellie O’Callaghan said, “Gunaikurnai people are intrinsically connected to this region. GLaWAC’s expertise, leadership and knowledge will be a valued part of One Gippsland’s work.”

The Chief Executive Officer of GLaWAC Mr Daniel Miller said he was thrilled to bring the voice of Aboriginal people to the table.

“GLaWAC is looking forward to working collaboratively within the One Gippsland network, enhancing the partnerships that already exist and building new partnerships.  We are always stronger when we work together” GLaWAC CEO Daniel Miller said.

GLaWAC has a membership base of more than 600 Traditional Owners, representing approximately 3,000 Gunaikurnai people from five major clans.

Other industry members on the One Gippsland Board include Food and Fibre Gippsland, Destination Gippsland, Federation University and TAFE Gippsland.  Bass Coast Shire Council, Baw Baw Shire Council, East Gippsland Shire Council, Latrobe City Council and South Gippsland Shire Council are member councils.
