From the Chair - June 2022

With a new Federal Government in play and a State election at the end of the year, the One Gippsland team have been working hard to ensure that our beautiful region is top of mind for politicians and policy makers.

During these past few months, we have had a busy calendar to advocate for a better deal for Gippsland. This has included a lot of work in the lead up to the Federal and State budgets. I’m pleased to see this paying off, with specific funding commitments for Gippsland road and rail as well as new funding for regional digital connectivity.

Looking ahead, we will focus our efforts on specific initiatives to support the recovery of the tourism industry and to build the capacity of our local economy.

We are thrilled to welcome a new Board member with Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) joining the team, bringing the voice of our Aboriginal People to the table. GLaWAC have a membership base of more than 600 Traditional Owners and continue to provide joint management for a number of parks and reserves across the region.

I would like to congratulate the Members and Senators on their election to the 47th Parliament of Australia and the incoming Albanese Government. A warm applause is also necessary for Mr Russell Broadbent MP Member for Monash and the Hon Darren Chester MP Member for Gippsland winning back their seats. The One Gippsland Board looks forward to working closely with them to champion the interests of our region.
