Around the table
One Gippsland took its advocacy to Parliament House, Canberra at the end of October for a day of meetings to further understanding and support among decision makers for government investment and policy that will support Gippsland’s future prosperity.
Our delegation met with:
Assistant Minister for Climate Change, Energy and for Emergency Management the Hon Josh Wilson MP;
Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs and Member for Gippsland the Hon Darren Chester MP;
Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Communications, the Arts and Sport, and Member for Monash, Ms Mary Aldred MP;
Office of the Minister for Climate Change and Energy, the Hon Chris Bowen, MP;
Office of the Minister for Communications and for Sport, the Hon Anika Wells MP;
Office of the Minister for Trade and Tourism, the Hon Don Farrell MP; and
Office of the Chair of the Joint Public Committee of Public Accounts and Audit, Mr Josh Burns MP.
The delegation discussed One Gippsland’s key policy and funding priorities to support the growth and future prosperity of Gippsland. They were:
Freight network improvements, including investment in five key freight infrastructure projects;
Digital connectivity, including prioritising Gippsland in the rollout of mobile blackspots and business fibre programs;
Renewables and new energy, including the establishment of a community benefit fund and local energy price reductions;
Tourism, including investment in two priority projects;
Skills and education, including the Gippsland Renewable Energy Precinct project and stage two of a renewable energy training centre; and
Disaster resilience, including simplifying the disaster recovery funding model.
